Married:
- Following the death of his first wife in Frederick County in 1918, Luther Dodson relocated to Nethers and married Matilda Nichols, daughter of Newton Nichols. Disastrously, in July 1924, Luther and Matilda were awakened at four in the morning to find their home engulfed in flames. Though they managed a narrow escape, their house and all their personal belongings were completely destroyed. Leaving the disaster behind, the couple fled on horseback over the Blue Ridge at Pinnacles into Page County. Shortly after, they returned to Frederick County, where they settled and raised eight children.
