Birkett Henry Alther, retired former of Castleton, Rappahannock County, died at the residence of his son and daughter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. John Alther on the Sperryville Road, Thursday morning. Thursday morning, February 17, 1949, where he and his wife, had been making their home since they sold their farm about four years ago. Mr. Alther was 69 years of age and has been in declining health for some time. He is survived by five children, who are: Mrs. Stevenson Ippolito of Culpeper and Chicago; John Alther and Wallie Alther of Culpeper; Thomas Alther of Elkwood, and Willie Alther of Castleton*. Also two brothers, David Alther and Allie Alther, of Rappahannock County. Funeral services were held from the Geest funeral parlors Saturday afternoon, February 19, 1949, his pastor, Rev. Emmett Snellings officiating at the bust rites. The interment was held in the family section of the Fairview Cemetery. A large assemblage of friends from his former residence in Rappahan nock County and other sections were present for the funeral services. The pallbearers were T.. H. Utz, Ralph Estes, John Woodward, John M. Brown, Fred Hitt, John Mozingo, Otho Deal and W. E. Kinsey. Those serving as honorary pallbearers were: Ray Cannon, Thomas Williams, Eddie Hugh Estes, Grardy Hyle, Kincer, Charlie Brown, J. T. Woodward1, jr., Brew Settle, Corder, Lewis Mills, John Charrlie Settle, Alpheus Cannon, John Cloud, Willie Cloudy J. P. Woodward, Frank Armentrout, Mason Kinsey, Willie Singleton, and others.
